PADU established a fund called Tabung Kebajikan dan Pendidikan Persatuan Alumni Doktor Universiti Sains Malaysia to help patients in government hospitals and hospitals of University of Higher Education Institution in Malaysia, and the purchase of medical equipment for patients regardless of age, race and religion. In 2010, PADU rebranded the fund name to PADUcare. In line with its tagline ‘Because We Care’, PADUcare has donated more than RM600,000 since its establishment.
In 2013, PADUcare partnered with MYDIN for the ‘Hole in the Heart' project, which was designed to assist patients with congenital heart disease or who have hole in the heart. The inaugural program is an initiative to ease the burden of financing the cost of health treatments and life-saving heart surgeries for children with hole in the heart.
A Brief History of PADU
The USM Medical Doctor Alumni Association (PADU) was established in pro-temp in 1986 and was endorsed in 1988. The first USM Doctor Alumni Association logo was designed by a doctor from Sabah, Dr. Aini, while Dr. Abdul Shukor Abdul Hamid worked on the constitutions of the association (first batch). The first president was Dr. Jafri Malin Abdullah, Secretary-Dr. Abdul Shukor Abd. Hamid and the position of treasurer was held by Dr. Abd. Razif Abd. Razak. Visit the PADU website.
